Indian Fry Bread Recipe Using Fresh Fenugreek Leaves

Indian fry breads are commonly known as ‘poori’ or ‘puri’ in Hindi. Many a time they are a meal in themselves. Here is a simple Indian fry bread recipe which uses fresh fenugreek leaves as a main ingredient. This Indian fry bread recipe not only tastes excellent but also gives you the nutritional benefits of fenugreek.

Ingredients:

– 2 cups of wheat flour
– 1 cup of gram flour
– 1 cup of fresh fenugreek leaves (washed and chopped finely)
– 2 tablespoons of salt (adjust according to taste)
– 2 tablespoons of hot oil
– 1 tablespoon of cumin seeds
– A pinch of turmeric
– A pinch of asafetida
– Oil for frying
– Water for kneading the dough

Method:

  •  In a big kneading bowl, take the wheat flour and mix in the gram flour.
  •  Now add the salt and fenugreek leaves to the flours and mix well by lightly rubbing the ingredients together using your hands.
  • Leave the mix aside for 15 to 20 minutes. This is important because the fenugreek leaves shed water when they come in contact with salt. If you knead the dough immediately then it will get wet.
  • Now mix the flour and fenugreek leaves well and add the cumin seeds and asafetida into it. Mix well.
  • Make a hole in the center of the mixture and pour the hot oil in the middle.
  • Mix using a fork (be careful – if the oil is too hot you can burn your hand).
  • Now add water at room temperature to knead a soft dough.
  • Let the dough rest for some time.
  • Heat some oil in a frying pan.
  • Cut the prepared dough in small balls and roll the balls to 3-4 inches in diameter. It should not be too thick or thin (about 1/2 centimeter thick is more than enough).
  • Fry the bread in hot oil until golden brown on both sides and puffed.
  • Remove from oil and place on an absorbent paper towel to soak up the extra oil.
  • Serve warm.

Serving suggestions:

Fenugreek fry bread is a meal in itself and very filling. You can serve it with:

  • Tomato chutney
  • Mango or chili pickle
  • Potato and peas gravy or any other gravy of your choice
  • Raita (yogurt seasoned with cumin seeds, mustard powder, cucumber and tomatoes)

Indian fry bread is great to carry with you if you are going on a long journey. It can be stored for up to 10 days at room temperature without spoiling. Make sure that you use properly washed and fresh fenugreek leaves only.

A Simple and Healthy Rice Flour Bread Recipe

This recipe is going to stick to the theme of gluten free recipes that we have been taking a look at lately. This time around, we’ll be baking a bread recipe that uses rice flour instead of regular flour. Some people prefer rice flour for its nutritional benefits while others simply prefer the taste to traditional flour. We’re going to be using both brown rice flour and white rice flour for this recipe, resulting in a deliciously fresh tasting rice flour bread that is easy to make at home, even without a bread machine. I really enjoy this rice flour bread recipe and I hope you do too!

Ingredients:

– 2 tsp granulated sugar
– ½ cup water (warm)
– 1 ¼ cups water (room temperature)
– 1 package of active dry yeast
– ⅓ cup vegetable shortening
– 2 cups white rice flour
– 1 cup brown rice flour
– ¼ cup granulated sugar
– 4 tsp xanthan gum
– ⅔ cup dry milk (or ⅓ cup soy powder)
– 1 ½ tsp salt
– 2 whole eggs

Preparation instructions:

1.Preheat your oven to 400°F.
2.In a bowl, dissolve the sugar in the warm water. Next, sprinkle the yeast on top of the water, but do not mix it in. Allow this to sit for around 10 minutes. Once the froth from the yeast has nearly reached the top of your bowl (by the way, your bowl should be a two-cup sized bowl), then it is ready.
3.In a saucepan, add the other water along with the shortening. Heat this and stir it until the shortening has melted, then remove from heat and let it sit until it has cooled down some, but is still slightly warm.
4.In a mixing bowl, mix together the rest of the dry ingredients and then mix in the water with the yeast and sugar. Blend this mixture together well, then add in your water and shortening mix and blend it together some more. Now add the eggs and knead the dough for several minutes.
5.Put the dough in a warm place to rise until it has doubled in size. This usually takes about an hour. Pour the risen dough into a greased bread pan.
6.Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, and then cover it with foil and bake for an additional 50 minutes.
7.Allow your bread to cool on a rack.

There you have it. A healthy and delicious rice flour bread recipe that you can make in the late afternoon and enjoy with dinner! This bread recipe is a favorite among my friends who cannot eat gluten.

Delicious Rice Flour Bread Recipe without Eggs and Gluten

As most bakeries use egg and yeast to bake their breads, it is difficult for people who are vegan to find bread recipe‘s in the market that is without eggs. It is also especially difficult for those who cannot eat gluten to find a loaf of bread to enjoy. Here is a simple gluten free and vegan rice flour bread recipe that you can make at home and enjoy with your family and friends.

Items needed for rice flour bread recipe:

  • ½ cup fresh and unsalted almonds
  • 1 ½ cup brown or white rice flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • A pinch of salt

  • ½ cup fresh yogurt
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 large tablespoon flaxseeds (for those who eat eggs, use 1 large egg and 1 egg white)

  • Heat the oven to 180°C or 350°F.
  • Grease a bread loaf pan with a little butter.

Beef Sausage Bread Recipe

Here’s a sausage bread recipe to write home about. This bread recipe uses beef sausage and Turkish Pastirma, however you could use various other meats in their place. I’ve heard of people using Italian sausages, salami, lamb – but today we’re going to stick with a classic beef sausage for this bread. This recipe calls for a package of bread mix, you can certainly substitute this for fresh bread or even one of my other bread recipes, however seeing as this recipe is already a little more complex than my previous ones, I decided to include an “Easy button”. Here is the extensive list of ingredients you will need, make sure you double check because it’s easy to forget something!

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of sausage (beef)
  • 12 ounces of Turkish Pastirma (Either chopped into cubes, or slices like you would find on a pizza)
  • ¼ cup of Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 3 cups of mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 2 cups of cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of parsley
  • 1 teaspoon of oregano
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspooon of onion flakes
  • 1 package of bread roll mix

Got all that? Great, now here’s what you need to do with it:

  1. If you’re using a mixture for the bread, prepare it according to the instructions on the box.
  2. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  3. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  4. In a skillet/frying pan, you will need to fry the beef sausages along with the pastirma. Do this until they are browned, and drain the fat. (Tip: Drain it into a can or other container that you can dispose of, it’s very bad for your sink to drain the fat into the sink.)
  5. Mix together the cheeses and meats in a large mixing bowl, along with 2 eggs and the spices / seasonings.
  6. Take the bread dough that you made in step 1, and divide it into two equal pieces. Take the first piece and flatten it with a rolling pin on your counter into a square or a rectangle. Now, add half of the mixture from step 5 on top of the dough, and roll this up into a log. Now, do this again with the remaining ingredients. The yield is two rolls of sausage bread.
  7. Place both of these rolls onto your baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush both logs with the two remaining eggs after beating the eggs.
  8. Now, it’s oven time! Place the baking sheet into your preheated over and cook for about 1 hour. Start to keep an eye on things after about 45 minutes, just to make sure.

Now you’re all done and left with cheesy, meaty and delicious rolls of sausage bread. This sausage bread recipe isn’t as complicated as it may sound once you get started, and you can just about feed an army with the end result!

  • Roll out the ball lightly to ¼ inch of thickness.
  • In a deep fry pan heat the oil to a smoking point and turn down the heat.
  • Put the rolled out patty in the oil one at a time and fry until golden brown on both sides.

Delicate Indian Fry Bread Recipe

Now, I have never been to India (Or anywhere even close, for that matter), but thankfully India’s unique and delicious cuisine including the varieties of indian fry bread recipe has found it’s own way into my kitchen over the years.

As a frequent baked of bread, and someone who loves to share bread recipes with other people, I love having unique and exciting recipes to share. Can you tell where this is going yet? Today, I have a great Indian fry bread recipe that I will teach you how to make. Indian Fried Breads are quite similar to doughnuts, they’re also great for covering with icing, jelly or pudding to make a tasty treat. Perhaps even with peanut butter in the morning with a cup of coffee? They’re quite simple to make, and this Indian fry bread recipe can be enjoyed any time of day.

You won’t need very many ingredients at all, chances are you already have these ones in your home. Here’s what you’ll need:

  •  3/4 cups of water
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 2 tsp of baking powder

Here are the instructions, and always be careful when dealing with hot oil in a frying pan!

  1. In a medium sized mixing bowl, combine flour, salt and baking powder.
  2. Mix in the oil and the water, mix thoroughly.
  3. Form a large ball of dough with the mixture, and break off about 8 equal sized pieces. Form each piece into a ball and flatten it. It’s your choice if you would like to poke a hole in the middle to create a ring, or have a flat circle.
  4. Fill a frying pan with about 3/4 inch of vegetable shortening, and turn up the heat just past medium. Fry the pieces of batter for a few moments on each side, until they just start to brown. If you time it just right, they will be golden and delicious!
  5. After removing from the frying pan, make sure you have a piece of paper towel of a kitchen towel to absorb the excess oil from the bread.

That’s all it takes to make a delicious fry bread recipe at home! As with any bread recipe that requires frying, always be careful when dealing with higher temperatures and frying oil, it’s okay to wear a pair of gloves so ensure that an accidently splash doesn’t hurt you!

The best time to apply icing sugars is while the bread is still warm, but not too hot. Allow it to cool for a few moments after removing it from the heat, and then sprinkle over icing sugar for a delicious treat!

Garlic Cheese Bread Recipe

I’m going to stray a bit from my usual bread recipes which teach you how to bake bread. This time around, I’ll be sharing a delicious garlic cheese bread recipe in such a way that it will be ready to share almost immediately.

This will differ from some of my other recipes, because the ingredients are more open to personal preference. What really makes this bread recipe special is the way that you prepare it, so you can use as much as or as little of each ingredient as you would like. I will provide you with a guideline, but feel free to make adjustments to suit your own tastes. For example, if you find that the recipe calls for too much butter and not enough cheese, or vice versa, you know what to do! This garlic cheese bread recipe uses several different types of cheese to draw out as much flavour as possible. If don’t have all, or any of them, feel free to make a substitution for the cheese of your choice. This is true for the bread itself, as well, as you can use whichever kind of bread you prefer.

Suggested Ingredients

  • 1 medium sized loaf of French bread
  • 2 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp rosemary
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup Havarti cheese
  • 1/4 cup Romano cheese

Preparation Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 550°F. Some ovens don’t heat up to this temperate, in this case just set it to as hot as it goes. A very hot temperature is the trick to having a soft inside with a crunchy outside.
  2. Cut your bread in half, and then in half again via the other direction, leaving you with four equal pieces.
  3. Spread the butter evenly across each piece of bread.
  4. Microwave the bread for about 15 seconds to melt the butter.
  5. Spread your cheese across the bread.
  6. Now, sprinkle the garlic powder and herbs on top of the cheese.
  7. Place the bread in the oven once it’s preheated. It will only take about 8-12 minutes depending on the temperature of your oven. Keep an eye on it! Once the cheese is completely melted and started to bubble around the edges, you’re all done.

It’s that simple! This makes a great addition to many pasta and salad dishes, or a delicious snack all on it’s own. You can prepare this garlic cheese bread recipe quite quickly, and customize it to suit almost anyone’s taste!
